Uber sex . . my reaction

middle-age American living in New Jersey near the Lincoln Tunnel «« "Abhorrent” is how a top-level rep for Uber described how Susan Flower was treated as an employee of Uber. I read Susan’s blog post detailing her year at Uber. The man who solicited her for sex over the company chat on Susan’s first day proved to be acting with confidence his behavior would be tolerated by Uber. Susan’s first notice to HR stopped additional advancements by her perpetrator. Susan’s work at Uber continued with a series of events that continued to reveal Uber’s difficulty treating women with respect. In total she was sexually harassed by chat and not physically touched, and the man’s sexual advances halted after first notice. The other events did not stand alone as harassment even though they contributed to the negative politics. “Repeated and unwanted” requirements for a blockbuster harassment case were not satisfied. Every employee has a sense of the entity they work for considered, “company”, but each person assigns expectations to that entity called, “company’ differently. Susan expected HR to act on behalf of the, “company” taking care to act responsibly and protect the, “company’s” liability in the process, and HR was only interested in staying out of trouble. Susan first saw HR as an independent police force capable of acting responsibly and independent of the toxic political environment, but Susan was wrong. HR was as caught up and as restrained by the company politics as other departments. Susan’s perpetrator was eventually fired, but for a long run he was seen as someone to fear, and HR showed fear in their reaction. The idea that Susan’s perpetrator’s case in HR would quickly rise to the level of attention warranted was an expectation not realistic considering that processes of justice were broken throughout Uber including HR. Given how Susan’s perpetrator halted his sexual advances after he was warned by HR probably let HR believe they were doing their job. No one was being physically harassed, and Susan’s perpetrator was stopping after being warned one harassment victim at a time. Susan gives no text to, "My lessons”. I wonder. »» about me 302-990-2346 nearlincoln@hotmail.com contact us
