Kobe’s Italian

middle-age American living in New Jersey near the Lincoln Tunnel «« My casual survey is complete. Only Hana and I knew Kobe Bryant spoke Italian before he died, and Hana only knew because I told her, and I only knew because I read more depth when Kobe faced rape allegations. Hector my DR barrio cafe amigo learned of Kobe’s five languages upon the occasion of Kobe’s death. Ires an El Salvador barrio cafe barista, por supuesto, knew of Kobe’s Spanish, because she’s a sports fan and Kobe was more famous than NBA stars who don’t speak Spanish and who aren’t married to Mexican Americans. Here in this NYC cafe Corvo 39th Street and Eighth the barista knew of Kobe’s Spanish, but not the other languages. She’s young and curious, and she wanted to know the two other languages, which, at this moment I don’t know. This Corvo barista is a Spanish-speaking American with roots probably in Mexico. Hana’s Italian amico and American resident, Diego, was shocked to hear Kobe’s . . . . articulate . . . Italian not typical American speaking Italian: pizza, mandolino, pasta. Dear kind readers: You’ll have to trust me on this “pizza, mandolino, pasta” is funny in this context if you’re Italian. Sincerely, Tom Doody. I think that concludes my survey. Even celebs and sports superstars who are also generous with media, not guarded — so much we know yet . . . . . I am now in Starbucks with my Covo coffee, because a man said he was returning with his gun to shoot everyone — police called. »» about me 302-990-2346 contact
