yoga

middle-age American living in New Jersey near the Lincoln Tunnel «« In the recent week I’ve passed another milestone in yoga. It was by chance waiting for an uber on the very most eastern end of Long Island with Hana. Hana and I had yoga blocks with us, and I sat on my two bound-together blocks on a molded concrete bench, and I reached to the end of the bench and curled my fingers round the edge of the bench. Releasing one hand I pushed the yoga block back, and used my weight and position to stretch. With a small hook and six-foot strap I can repeat the position at home. This is a small modification to a yoga position already in my daily routine. Hana’s friend Jasleen was married in a Sikh ceremony in 2012, and I was able to sit comfortably on the floor as a result of routine stretching I started about that time. I was smug watching younger Indian Americans fidget uncomfortably while I sat still and relaxed on the floor. Indians invented yoga, and this American, me, was using it to my advantage while my Indian American neighbors showed their departure from their parent’s history. In 2016 I recorded this, and today I advanced again. If I’m fortunate enough to become elderly I’ll be able to clip my own toenails. Dear kind readers: If you considering doing more with yoga it is my advice to search: prison yoga. If convicts doing yoga does not inspire you, then it’s not likely a Jane Fonda successor or an Indian guru will inspire you. Sincerely, Tom Doody »» about me 302-990-2346 contact us
