Officer Fields

middle-age American living in New Jersey near the Lincoln Tunnel «« Niya Kenny was interviewed today by local news media pros.  She witnessed the arrest of a classmate at: Spring Valley High School in South Carolina, and Niya captured the viral vid.  Richland County Deputy Ben Fields is the officer who used force to arrest the student.  The student is reported to refuse request by the teacher to end her phone conversation.  I watched several vids of the force used by Fields, and each vid is disturbing.  In 2003 I spoke in favor of teachers who were being accused by fellow parents of disciplining the wrong kid.  I said I had no objection to my kid getting disciplined for something he did not do.  Today I consider my support for teachers in 2003 in the context of the force used by Officer Fields, and I find current events have me questioning the resolve I had in 2003.  It is true in 2003 that my son, David, now deceased 1988 – 2007, had a sense of fear related to overstepping his limits.  Though not impossible it would be a wild divergence from David’s behavior for him to defy a request to terminate a phone conversation.  Even the kids accused of worse things than my son in 2003 were more respectful of authority.  God it’s upsetting, and yes, it’s worse for me as a father knowing Fields used such force on a girl.  The disparity in strength between a girl that age and officer Fields is large, so given the target of a sufficient and not excessive force leaves Fields a large range to do his job properly.  Fields did not do his job properly.  I am eager understand a credible description of what the Officer should have done.  Faulting Fields is justified though I can’t determine what I would have done in the officer’s situation. »» about me  302-990-2346  twitter  nearlincoln@hotmail.com  contact us
