time out for myself

middle-age American living in New Jersey near the Lincoln Tunnel <<< Today at the eyeglass store at 60th and Bergenline, West New York, New Jersey with an in-store optometrist, Maria, helped me, but she was not very helpful, because I gave her an excuse not to help me by not having my insurance card.  Our exchange lit her short wick, and I said, “I didn’t come here to get harassed”, which sped her speech and raised her volume in a defensive response, so I turned and sat on the waiting bench in silence.  After a two-customer cycle I said from my bench, “Maria, can we try again?”, and she found reason to ignore me, so after a few more minutes, “Maria, can we try again?”  We restarted, and without undue delay I was in with the doctor.  I consider my return-to-my-bench tactic a success, since at one point I threatened to leave, which would have cost me more than sixty minutes.  When I was a father of young children “time out” was a popular child punishment, and today I used it on myself – muy bueno. >>> about me, 866-610-7920, 201-490-9659 use anonymoustomdoody@gmail.com as an email address to comment without posting your email address, or login to gmail with password: anonymous123
