charm school in New Jersey

middle-age American living in New Jersey near the Lincoln Tunnel <<< Two solicitations for pedicab passengers tonight hit the typical wall where each of the two men would not disclose his destination.  “I come in peace, I mean no harm; I am looking for the courtesy to present my services; I only need a destination”, I said.  “I am going to take a yellow cab” was the uncooperative reply.  “You’re going to take a regular cab?”, and “yes” was the reply.  “I understand I am only trying to present an alternative, and to do that I only need a destination”  I said, and when the destination did not follow, “I give you my Vegas promise, you tell me your destination, and I only use it to present my services, your secret is my secret; your Imam, Priest or Rabbi does not need to know; I will take it to my grave” I expected this advanced level of resistance, and I pressed on with my burn-the-bridge mumble in his direction without really talking to him, “I attended charm school in Newark, New Jersey, it was an eighteen month program, and I was taught to treat others the way I want to be treated, I could get you enrollment information” and to my surprise the man replied, “I went to that school, and I was the vale dictorian” and my reply, “no you weren’t; you would have been expelled”  Upon my second solicitation on the same spot, I got the same BS, and I did an abbreviated version of the aforementioned, and I said, “Do you know this guy?” and I sort of directed the two men together, and they ended up soliciting together for the purpose of sharing a cab.  This was the ultimate dead-end solicitation in my experience.  When I reached the burn-the-bridge step I am only trying to keep whole.  When people want a cab, but deny me their location I have reason to feel disrespected, and my, Newark-New-Jersey-charm-school script is only to part with a gentle statement that I minded my manners, but the other person did not.  This doppio denial was fast and complete, and it sent each of the three of us away with good reason to laugh, and feel whole.  Pedicabbing is life.  I get a high count of rejects and a high count of good rides in a short amount of time. >>> about me, use as an email address to comment without posting your email address, or login to gmail with password: anonymous123
